We supply complete or partial house kits with steel or timber frames to the owner-builder. Let us help you design and build your own home in the Canberra region.
We are local to the Capital Country region, with offices in Canberra and a display home currently under construction just outside of Canberra. We like to provide face to face support for our customers and use local suppliers where possible. This allows us to provide you a level of support second to none.
Our kits come with either locally produced timber frames and trusses or 1.2mm thick welded steel frames and trusses. Our frames are custom made to order and are very strong. They can be cyclone rated and snow loaded. We can provide truss widths of 16 metres plus with standard, curved or skillion roof designs; if you can think of it, we can almost certainly make you a kit for it.
We have packaged our standard kits to include premium inclusions. We have not compromised on quality. We use the same components and inclusions that the top builders in Canberra use.
Our standard plans are listed with "living area" measurements in square metres. Some of our competitors list "roof area" measurements that include wall cavities, cladding and eaves. Please be sure that you are comparing apples with apples and you will find that we are more than competitive on price even with our premium inclusions and top quality components.
Our listed kit prices include a professionally installed top quality kitchen. The kitchen is the hub of your home and is often the hardest thing for an owner-builder to build perfectly.
We can design a home kit to suit your specification or we can modify one of our standard kits; we are very flexible. We are happy to give you a quote for the kit that meets your requirements. For example; if you would like to save some money by using a "flat-pack" kitchen that you install yourself; we can do that. If you would like a kit that excludes exterior walls because you plan to use mud bricks or pre-cast concrete walls; we can do that too.

Although Capital Country Homes are a new company in the Kit Home market. Our professional staff are not. We are a local reliable team that has been building quality homes for years. Our staff are qualified and experienced and are only too happy to assist you to build your dream home.
We pride ourselves upon providing dependable support, that you may require to build your own home. The decision to owner-build is a big one. Capital Country Homes offers a guided helping hand, allowing you to succesfully build your own quality home. Owner-builders save considerable money and gain a tremendous sense of satisfaction. You don’t even need to pick up a screw driver to owner-build. Of course, if you’re handy with a screw driver or paint brush there are many things that you can do to save yourself even more money and time.
Our Starter kit has a collection of owner-builder manuals, guides, checklists and tools to assist you along the way. A number of these are a result of several years of building experience. Our team also consists of a Licensed Builder who can provide expert assistance and advice. We provide instructions and checklists for any trades people you might need to engage during the process. We can also supply a total budget for your home building project. It includes estimates for the trades people and the components you might need for completion.

Owner-Builder Information

Insurance seems to be a hot topic when it comes to building your own home. We have a complete insurance package available for owner-builders. We have already negotiated a great price with a leading insurance provider and we are happy to pass on the discounts.

Owner-Builders save a significant amount of money by managing the construction of their own home.

You can co-ordinate the building and do as much or as little of the construction work as you like.

To become an Owner Builder, all you have to do is complete an owner builder’s course (on-line if you like) and apply for your license. We can assist you in obtaining an owner-builder license. The course teaches you the responsibilities of being an owner builder and the basics of how to project manage the construction of your own home. It takes 3 or 4 hours to complete the course and then pass the multiple choice quiz.

Steel vs Timber Frames
Steel Frames
The things to consider are:
Ø Steel Frames are termite, borer and dry rot proof, this is important in many regions. A CSIRO study reported that 32% of the housing sites in the ACT and NSW had termite activity. There is no requirement for chemical or physical termite barriers in homes with Steel Frames.
Ø Steel is light and easy for the owner builder to erect.
Ø Steel Frames are simple to screw together. If you make an error, you can remove the screw and try again.
Ø Steel Frames don’t twist, warp or shrink.
Ø We supply a cordless screw driver plus the screws and fixings that you need to erect your steel frame kit.
Ø Our Steel Frames are galvanized to ensure that they are weather resistant.
Timber Frames
The things to consider are:
Ø Timber Frames are cheaper.
Ø It is easier to find a trade person to construct your timber frame than building it yourself.
Ø A nail-gun might allow for faster construction than a cordless screw driver.
